What is the Coachella Music Festival?

Coachella is a music festival that is held annually during the month of April. Typically, the festival lasts for one weekend but now the festival spans over two. This year, the Coachella festival will be held April 12-21st. The event is attended by about 90,000-125,000 people ranging from the everyday person to A-list celebrities.  Headlining musical performers are expected with some past performers including Beyonce, Drake, and Eminem among a few. Underneath these big names are other talented artists that put on shows that make memories that will last a lifetime.

Where is Coachella held?

Every year the festival is held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California which is in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley in the Colorado desert. It has been held there since the earliest days of the festival. Coachella’s official address is 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio, CA 92201. Coachella’s official website advises all that attend to carefully follow directions and signs to prevent traffic mishaps that will make it hard to find. Making Coachella a special tradition is that it has been held in the same location for twenty-six years since it began. Since driving yourself may be a bit of a challenge, let us handle the stress and reserve a high-quality limo to provide you with transportation that will have you arriving in style.

When Did Coachella Start?

Although the official website remains vague in depicting the origins of the festival, with some digging it is possible to figure out how the beloved music festival got its start. It began in 1993 by a concert thrown by Pearl Jam. At the time, only about 25,000 people attended which is a small number compared to how many attend today. It took place only months after Woodstock. Originally, the festival took place in early October but has since been moved to April for better weather conditions. Since 2004, the festival has been a sold out event that thousands of people and musical acts attend from all over the globe.

How to Attend

Tickets are highly sought after and hard to get. Since the festival is so big in magnitude, tickets go on sale several months ahead of time. For the 2019 festival, Coachella tickets were on sale back in June. There are 3 different types of passes that are available for purchase each year. According to the Coachella Festival’s websites, the 3 different types of passes that are typically for sale are no longer available. However, thanks to other ticket selling sites customers are able to purchase tickets. Sadly, since the viable option is purchasing them through a 3rd party they are more expensive. For comparison purposes, we will cover the different types and then where to purchase.

2 Types of Passes

There are general admission passes that are either sold by themselves or with a shuttle option. Those that are sold by themselves are about $429 and with a shuttle is $504. These are 3-day passes that allow admission to the venue, parking areas, and camping areas. Then, there are VIP tickets that are a lot more expensive but include a lot more. These are $999 and allows access to the venue, parking lots, camping areas, and 3 VIP areas. The main VIP area includes amenities such as shaded areas, picnic tables, couches, restrooms, food and beverage vendors, and a full cash bar. The second area is a Rose Garden with the same and other amenities. VIP parking costs an extra $150.

Where to Buy

Although tickets are no longer available on the Coachella website, there are still ways to get your hands on tickets.  There are a handful of 3rd party sellers that offer tickets, one being Vivid Seats. As of now, the general admission tickets that provide 3-day access are more expensive than as previously listed costing around $569 to upwards of $1000 to have parking or a shuttle included. VIP tickets are also more expensive with the lowest costing $1215 with prices going up further as we get closer to Coachella. Another option is a website that Coachella actually endorses on their website, which is a travel package option. These are a number of resorts and hotels that one can reserve that include tickets to Coachella.

Where to Stay

For those traveling from a distance, some may be wondering where they can stay in order to attend the festival. Luckily, there are plenty of options that can fit a variety of needs and preferences.

On- Site Camping

For something memorable or a little more rugged, Coachella attendees have the option to camp on the grounds. These areas come with their own amenities that include free showers, wifi in the lounge, food and beverage vendors, farmer’s market, general store, mobile phone charging stations, portable toilets, free water filling stations, and more. There is a car camping option, which is exactly how it sounds. Festival-goers can set up a tent right outside or next to their cars and are only available for people with small or regular sized cars. Car camping is $113 for the spot. Then there are regular tent camping lots which also go for $113 and come with a parking spot for your car that is not next to the tent. There are also campgrounds that are conveniently a part of Coachella but with a more inclusive experience. Guests stay in awesome teepee style tents with extra or improved amenities and must be 18 years or older. At this time, tickets are no longer available but some 3rd party sellers may have passes. Lastly, for those who are into a more luxurious and home-like experience, Coachella offers Safari tents that are fully air-conditioned with regular beds and other amenities. Unlike the other options, Safari tents are available for purchase through another company but are still on-site and start at $9,500 for 2 people.
